Amy Runs New York

For the second year in a row I will be running the ING New York City Marathon with Team For Kids. Team for Kids is a great foundation that raises money to start and maintain running programs for kids in New York City public schools that may lack any sort of formal physical education program. I ask your support in helping me reach my goal to raise $2,000 for Team for Kids this year. If you would like to donate please follow the links and use my entrant number 18916

Last Year's Marathon

Here's me in the bright TFK green at about mile 24 last year. Surprisingly, I look pretty happy in this picture but it is not because I'm feeling great at mile 24 (not even close), but because I finally saw my friends who I missed back at mile 19! I finished the marathon in 3 hours 50 minutes and 6 seconds which I was quite pleased with since my goal was to break 4 hours. This year my ultimate goal is to finish in 3 hours and 40 minutes which would qualify me to run the Boston Marathon. But I think to meet this goal I will have to really have an amazing day... so my second (more realistic) goal is just to beat last year's time!

Running With Team For Kids

Last year I ran my second NYC Marathon but my first with Team For Kids. Running with Team for Kids was an incredible experience. Not only was I able to raise $2,300 for a great cause with the help of my friends and family (Thank You!), but I also had the opportunity to meet and volunteer with some of the kids who benefit from Team For Kids. This year I have committed to running with Team For Kids again and I aim to raise $2,000 to benefit the Running Partners Programs.

Last Year Team For Kids raised over $1.3 million dollars and as a result the New York Road Runners Foundation was been able to expand its program beyond New York and start similar programs in other cities across the country. With even more team members training for NY this year, TFK hopes to come closer to reaching its goal of providing fitness programs for over 100,000 children nationwide in the next five years. These fitness programs use running to teach children goal-setting, proper nutrition, and even the importance of academic achievement. Your contributions will help pay for the training, supplies, uniforms, events, and transportation that make the Running Partners program so successful.

To get a glance at what it's all about take a look at the video my friend Bob made over the course of last season... I even make a brief appearance!
